Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy at NW Myofunctional Therapy in Tigard, OR.

About

If you’re dealing with jaw pain, tension, headaches, clenching, poor sleep, or symptoms that keep returning despite trying other treatments, there may be more going on than just the jaw itself. I help patients identify and address the underlying oral and facial muscle patterns that can contribute to TMJ symptoms, including tongue posture, swallowing patterns, mouth breathing, and improper resting posture. Through individualized myofunctional therapy, we work to improve how these muscles function together so your jaw doesn’t have to compensate as much throughout the day and night. My goal is to help you understand why your symptoms may be happening, give you practical tools to improve function, and collaborate with your other providers when appropriate so we’re supporting the whole system—not just chasing symptoms.

New here?

I’m so glad you reached out. Living with jaw pain, tension, clenching, headaches, or other TMJ symptoms can be frustrating—especially when you’ve already tried to find answers. I’m here to help you understand the functional patterns that may be contributing to your symptoms and create a clear, personalized path forward. I look forward to learning more about you and how I can support you.

Treatment approach

Approaches

Orofacial myofunctional therapy, neuromuscular retraining, tongue and oral resting posture retraining, swallowing retraining, nasal breathing retraining, jaw stability exercises, and functional habit retraining.

What to expect

Treatment is personalized, collaborative, and focused on helping you build lasting changes in the way your oral and facial muscles function. Rather than simply managing symptoms, we look at patterns such as tongue posture, swallowing, breathing, jaw stability, and oral resting posture that may be contributing to ongoing tension or dysfunction. Sessions are active and education-based, with targeted exercises and strategies you’ll practice between visits. My goal is for you to understand what we’re working on, why it matters, and how each step supports better function and long-term results.

Client focus

Top specialties

I specialize in working with patients experiencing TMJ/TMD, jaw tension, clenching and grinding, facial muscle tension, headaches, and chronic oral dysfunction. I have a particular interest in treating patients with hypermobility and women in perimenopause and menopause who are experiencing changes in jaw comfort, sleep, breathing, clenching, or oral and facial muscle function. I also frequently address mouth breathing, low tongue posture, tongue thrust, dysfunctional swallowing patterns, and poor oral resting posture that may be contributing to ongoing strain and compensation. Myofunctional therapy can be especially valuable for patients whose symptoms are complex, seem interconnected, or continue despite other treatment. I often work collaboratively with dentists, TMJ specialists, physical therapists, orthodontists, ENTs, airway providers, and sleep specialists to address the functional piece of the bigger picture.
